Common Milkweed

Milkweed is an important native wildflower for monarch butterflies, but it is dangerous to dogs and cats. The plant contains cardenolides that affect the heart.

Pets that chew on milkweed leaves or stems can become seriously ill. If you grow milkweed for pollinators, place it in an area pets cannot reach.
